hosts file IP 127.0.0.2
In my hosts file I have
127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.2 linux.site linux What is the difference between these two IPs and why do I have them both? Thanks |
I did a quick gooogle for "127.0.0.2" and lists.suse.com has a good explanation of this. -> it is a loopback device for a second NIC
hope this helps, jacks4u |
Thanks. My bash prompt is:
user11@linux:~> Do you know where the "linux" coming from? Is it picking up the hostname from 127.0.0.2 since there is no alias for 127.0.0.1? I don't see the prompt specified in my .bashrc or .profile files. "linux" appears whether user11 or root is logged in. |
