High CPU Usage in OpenSuSE 10.2

I am using OpenSuSE 10.2 on one of my computers, and have recently noticed very high CP usage (close to 100%) when the computer is just sitting idly with no other applications running. There has been no new software added, other than security updates to already installed packages, and I have checked Gnome System Monitor for information as to what could possibly be running in the background to cause such CPU usage, but nothing is reported. What else should I be checking for this type of thing? There does not appear to be any network usage during this time, so I don't believe that the computer is pulling anything from the Internet. Also, indexing is turned off. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Look at the output of "top". Pressing [SHIFT]-< or [SHIFT]-> you can sort by the CPU usage. You may have "updatedb" or beagle indexing files in the background.

Thanks for the info. It turned out that the resource intensive processes were parse-metadata and update-settings at startup. Once these had finished, the system was back to normal (as close to normal as possible anyway).
