I have just installed Suse. I thought I would give it a test drive. I have been using Ubuntu and have a server set up, but I don't know how to connect to the server in Suse. I can ssh into the server without a problem. How do I connect to my file server in Suse?
tim
connect to the server? i've learnt that "connect" normally means samba... baffles me why people think that that's the most basic thing to do... you'd need to configure samba, presumably via yast, and ensure that your firewall permits port 445.

I am not sure what baffles you. Connecting to a server? It is something that Ubuntu does without any configuration. I understand I don't know a great deal about Suse or any Linux distribution but I am trying to learn.
I did install samba and tried to configure the firewall but didn't see anywhere that allowed opening port 445. I am going to continue to work with it.
i mean connecting means opening a tcp or udp connection, nothing to do with file sharing or such. ssh is connecting, a web server is connecting etc... somehow a share is seen to be something special / different to any one of a thousand other tcp/ip services.
