GUI wont start, X Server fails

Hi all,
First of all this is my fist attempt at Linux so go easy on me

Anyway, I have opensuse 10.3 installed and had my ATI video card installed/working.
After attempting a compiz install, KDE no longer starts on bootup, it is in runlevel init 5.
I have tried running sax2 with various options, for example:
sax2 -m 0=vesa
sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx
sax2 -r -m 0=radeonold
etc. to no avail...

when I then do a startx, I get the response:

Fatal server error:
Unrecognized option: -xgl
giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

edit
ok so part of the compiz install required the command: gnome-xgl-switch --enable-xgl

so I tried disabling it: gnome-xgl-switch --disable-xgl

Low and behold, KDE start!

Sorry for wasting anyones time...

so know you disabled hardware acceleration.
is that something you think you will need?
I must have hardware acceleration otherwise scrolling though web pages is to jerky - that and I play games
do you want hardware acceleration?

Yeah I was trying to get compiz-fusion working...but it seems that Xgl is giving me trouble.
I am able to get hardware acceleration working, but I cannot enable xgl.
I may just have to wait for an updated ATI driver I guess.

I'm thinking that it must just be that my ATI 200M just isn't supported any longer by ATI, or that they just don't care about Xgl compatibility. Although I think people may have had the 200M working with openSUSE 10.2? I'll have to check on that one.
