yesterday i connected a new external hdd to my computer via a hub. my hp nx6110 has only two usb-ports. everything worked very well, both in linux suse 10.1 and win xp sp1, which i am using now. this morning i started my computer and recognized that the start up took much longer than usual. than my usb-mouse didn't work, which is connected directly to the notebook. the lights on the hub were off as well as the hdd didn't come up when i turned it on. therefore i assumed something might be wrong with my usb-ports*. i checked that in windows, where everything works; i chose the option "restart > windows". since then, grub is loading, but it displays "loading windows" at once, without even asking whether i want to start suse, which is my standard option. so, basically, i am not able to start linux right now...!
how do i fix the problem? please write in newbie-terms!
regards
ungua
*= i have it quite often that my dsl-connection won't work at the days first start, it is only activated after running "network connections" in yast. i assumed a problem similar to that might occur with the usb-ports now, even though i never had problems and have always been using a usb-mouse. the notebook was purchased in may.
edit: i use
this german wiki trying to fix grub. unfortunately, none of its commands seem to work.
Code:
knoppix@Knoppix:~$ fdisk -l
knoppix@Knoppix:~$ sudo mkdir /mnt/suse
knoppix@Knoppix:~$ sudo mount /dev/hda2 /mnt/suse
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
so it looks like as if i created the /mnt/suse thing (do i have to undo something there since it doesn't work?), but both fdisk which does not give any reaction, even though the option "-l" is listed, and the second command do not work. i don't know how to specify the filesystem; i haven't used the terminal before...
