grub boot loader 'file not found - error 15'

I am unable to get a knoppix poor mans install to boot using grub and opensuse 11.3. I have tried the same method on another box, same opensuse 11.3 and it boots fine. However, no matter what partition I put the knoppix files in on the problem box, it is the same error. I also have several opensuse kernels listed in the grub menu that were added when the kernel was updated, so the knoppix grub entry is off the screen. I have to down arrow to list the knoppix entry. I read that with this kind of error using ubunto as the host system, that running update-grub will force grub to look for bootable kernels and add it to the menu of boot choices. Does the same fix apply to opensuse 11.3? I have two versions of puppy linux working on this box as a poor mans install, so I am at a loss why it will not see the knoppix kernel. Can it be a problem of too many kernels listed in the menu.lst file? This box is a live update from opensuse 11.0.

You start your post referring to Knoppix and Opensuse and later in the post make reference to Puppy Linux as well as Ubuntu. Do you have Knoppix, Opensuse and multiple Puppy Linux installs. Your post references Ubuntu but it seems you are referring to an article you read and you do not actually have Ubuntu installed. It would be helpful to know:

Which operating systems are installed
On which partitions/disks they are installed (if you have more than one disk)
Which bootloader you are using, from which operating system: Knoppix, Opensuse, Puppy??

The error 15 happens when the entry in menu.lst for the OS (Knoppix in this case) is not correct for some reason.

Could you post your partition information? Run the command: fdisk -l (Lower case Letter L in command), run as root.

Let's see everything relevant - go to sf.net and get the bootinfoscript. Run that from a Linux terminal and post the RESULTS.txt here

Ok, I have the boot info script and will copy/paste the results.

Yes, the reference to ubunto was an article I read about fixing the error in an ubunto grub boot loader. I did not know if the fix also applied to suse.
The box with the problem is a dual boot win98 and opensuse 11.3. I have two puppy linux frugal installs in (hd0,0) windows partition. Everything boots except knoppix. I copied the knoppix files from the iso image to a folder in the root partition (hd0,0) and called the folder 'knoppix'.

Here's a link to a forum post at opensuse.org regarding updating Grub. I believe Opensuse 11.3 still uses Grub Legacy while newer Ubuntu verisons use Grub2.

I don't think that will work, it's not the normal method to install. I've not installed Knoppix to a hard drive though.

Posting the bootinfo script output should help.
