Gimp Gap problem in Suse 9.2

I'm having a problem installing Gimp Gap in Suse 9.2. I'm using Gimp 2.2+ but the .configure program for Gap lists it as 2.0.4 (it definitely is 2.2 - it runs fine and I have removed any earlier versions). Can anyone tell me how to change this? Presumably I use pkg-config - which exists on my my machine - but I don't know how.

checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for GIMP... Requested 'gimp-2.0 >= 2.2.0' but version of GIMP is 2.0.4
configure: error: Package requirements (gimp-2.0 >= 2.2.0 gimpui-2.0 >= 2.2.0 gimpthumb-2.0) were not met:

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GIMP_CFLAGS
and GIMP_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.
