Fresh 10 install, Optimizations

I am hoping to do a fresh SuSE 10 install on my tower which I already know can handle it, and every peice of hardware will be compatible( except for that minor 3d acceleration issue I can fix with my ATI card... maybe this time it will go better). This time I plan to select each and every package I want, and each and every one I don't, and I want to optimize the system as much as possible.

So, I have some questions:
Which 10.0 will be fastest? OSS vs Eval vs Retail vs Something Else?
Lilo vs Grub?
KDE vs Gnome?
Does SuSE support XFS? If yes, how do I format the drive in XFS, can I do it from the install disk?
Settings I should be aware of?
Any upgrades I should do immediately?
-Like Kernel version?
-Kernel Upgrade how tos for SuSE 10...and locations to get SuSE compiled RPMs, as apparently the ones from the Kernel have a few different settings and options
Any general advice for making it seem and feel faster?

I also plan to write a full Newbie walkthrough as I go.

That's it?
Grub?
XFS?
KDE?
Upgrade Everything with YAST... But the newer Kernels don't come through YAST... so is it not worth using them at all, or what?

Do you mean the bleeding edge kernels don't come through Yast? because on Suse 9.3 Pro I did 2 or 3 kernel upgrades through Yast.

Yes, I mean the bleeding edge, hot shit latest and greatest kernel direct from the source. I woulnd't be missing outon anything required for SuSE would I?

Edit: As of today that would be the new .14 kernel...

Speaking thereof, I have everything working, without having upgraded the Kernel, I will just wait till the SuSE people get the .14 going and use YOU. I think that is a far safer bet, than me trying and killing it myself. Anyone know how long abouts this kind of thing usually takes?
