Format Partition

I am trying to perform a full format on a partition from a command line. What is the command to do this? Is it possible to format a partition in NTFS?

Try man mkfs.

I don't think you can format NTFS from linux. But if anything can do it, try booting Knoppix and using qtparted (a nice gui like partition magic).

You can format it vfat and then convert it to NTFS from within windows.

Why do you want to do this though? Write support to NTFS from linux is not very stable...

This is actually to fix an issue that we are having with imaging. We are trying to image using Zenworks 7 which first boots the machine using a suse kernel. I want to be able to perform a full format on a partition before allowing the imaging process to occur as we are having problems when imaging from windows 2000 to windows xp. Is there a utility built into the suse kernel that can be executed via the command line?
