Footer printing with Opera and HP printer (SuSE 9.1)
 

Recently purchased an HP Deskjet 3745v inkjet printer to replace an Epson, Linux distro is SuSE 9.1.

When printing web pages with Konqueror, Fiirefox, or Mozilla/SeaMonkey, everything prints perfectly.

If I try printing a web page with Opera, the footers do not print. If the font size used for footers is increased, the very tops of the text will print (it mostly looks like a bunch of random dots), the remainder of the footers do not print.

On the surface, it would appear that the Opera footers may be printing outside of the normal print range of the printer itself. I am using the PPD file for the HP 3740 printer, and apart from the Opera problem, this PPD file works perfectly. There is no PPD file for the 3745.

I have gone so far as to reduce the bottom margin all the way down to zero and this has had no effect on Opera's printing. This problem does not occur with Opera for Windows using the same printer, only with Linux.

Are there any known solutions to this problem?

Don' t use Opera. You have plenty of other browsers to use that work.

Opera defaults to not print headers and footers on Linux, and cant be changed from print options AFAIK.

To change this:

Close Opera if open.
Open "/home/your_user_name/.opera/opera6.ini" in an editor.
Scroll down to "Show Printer Header=0" in the [Printer] section.
Change line to "Show Printer Header=1".
Save.
Start Opera and the "Print headers and footers" option should now be enabled.

Fiddly but works.
