As it turns out it's not just the fonts, that's just where I can most easily detect the messy representation of the screen. I have connected the monitor to a Windows XP machine and followed the exact installation instructions on the original Monitor CD. Same deal, can't get the screen cleaned up. I see the cursor and fonts having a 'shadow'-like appearance (there's a blurry shade surrounding the fonts). Nothing looks really sharp. It is just workable but not that's it. I am starting to think about buying a new monitor since I really don't know anymore what to do with this. If you have any clues, please let me know.
Yep, that's my idea exactly! Anything I can do about this? I think I did the installation properly by I am unsure for instance if the dpi setting (the 96 dpi standard) on XP matter at all (Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced). I don't know if this is critical or not. If so, then that may also be the issue with SUSE.
I realize that this may not be the right forum to put this, since it turns out not te be SUSE-related. If you have any ideas on this it would still really help me. Thanks for all your input so far!
Most monitors follow the vesa PnP design and Windows XP will probe the monitor and set the proper settings. You have an LCD screen so you can not open the monitor and adjust the focus like you can on a CRT. Take the monitor back and get a refund if you can. Sorry sounds as if you have a bad monitor (it does happen)
Hope not, there is no more warranty on this monitor since I had assumed for a long time it to be linux-related. Hell, I didn't even know that there is such a thing as 'bad' monitors! I was really busy during the time when I bought it and since it was workable I decided to leave it be and fix it later (as in now). It appears that you're right though. I don't have any more tricks up my sleeve and will have to start living with this I suppose (or throw the *&^$% thing out the window and get a new one).
hey, I have similar problem. But to be more specific: the fonts look bad on 600x800 resolution and only in some (not all) program menu's, for ex. real player is the worst! I tried to set up fonts through KDE Control Center but it does nothing good. It seams to me as real player uses its own font settings and KDE has nothing to do with it. Other 'funny' thing is that, if I switch to higher resolution the fonts look bigger!!??? So I assume it is screen fonts problem - and I don't know how to fix it...
Hey dude, sorry I cannot be of any help. I've given up on it a while ago. I'm just gonna get me a new monitor sometime soon. Hope yours is software related so you'll be able to fix it. Good luck.
