firefox ui slow

Hey,

FIrst off, I'm not complaining about the load up speed of firefox.... Its the ui speed once you're in.

Just resizing the window causes it to chug. I.e. During resizing I see weird ghosting effects.

I've got 3d acceleration enabled.

I'm on suse 9.3 with a 2.2ghz chip and a gig of ram using firefox 1.0.4.

Anybody else getting this?

cheers

does an upgrade to 1.0.6 (which you should do for security reasons anyway) help?

Ok, just upgraded and I'm being an idiot.

The problem is not specific to firefox. Openoffice is slow when resizing windows, so is amarok to mention a couple. Knoqueror is fine incidently.

This must be an X problem right? 3d acceleration is working because I can play all those 3d games that come free.

Whats going on?

yep- it's an x problem. umm... are you using KDE and are all the KDE specific programs working fine (re resizing drag) ?

Yeah, I'm using KDE and they're all really slow. i.e. control center, kontact, amarok

??

Is your computer slow?

titanium_geek 07-24-2005 02:14 PM

or perhaps it is a problem with qt or gtk ?

what if it is a RAM problem? or a swap problem? (clutching at straws here) can you replace the stick of RAM for testing purposes?

Sounds like a video card driver issue to me. I'd look for updated drivers first. If you can't find any try disabling any fancy window effects you may be using, like transparent menus/windows/etc.
