Firefox file dialog broken in kde 4.1.3 on opensuse 11.1

I'm running kde 4.1.3 on opensuse 11.1 x86_64. Recently, firefox 3.5.5 installed from the opensuse mozilla repository started having a problem with its file dialog. I can no longer use the file dialog to open a file or insert a file as a gmail attachment (and so on). After trying to debug this problem, I realized that

1. firefox 3.5.5 is using a kde style file dialog which appears to be broken
2. No other browser (in kde 4.1.3) such as konqueror, chromium, seamonkey has this problem
3. firefox downloaded from mozilla's site does not have this problem because it's using a gtk-based file dialog even in kde 4.1.3
4. firefox in gnome does not have this problem because it's using a gtk file dialog.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

No, but kde 4.1.3 is a colection of bugs that look vaguely like a GUI (OK, slight overstatement there) and you could certainly go up to 4.3.2 or 4.3.3 and have fewer problems with that end of things.

opensuse 11.1 had an update of the MozillaFirefox-3.5.5 package yesterday that seems to have fixed the broken file dialog problem.

I'm going to upgrade to opensuse 11.2 which should improve the KDE GUI. It has not been that bad with kde 4.1.3.
