Too many times while surfing with firefox on my suse93 system, i come
across video media that i just cant play. i always assumed it was because everything is M$-windows-media-player-only... but i'd figured i would ask.
if anyone can successfully get these to play, then please let me know:
http://video.msn.com/v/us/v.htm
(for me, im redirected to a page: This product requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, Microsoft Media Player 10, and Macromedia Flash 6.) Can anyone play this on their Linux system?
Files encoded for Windows Media Player 10 will not play in Linux or the Mac OS. It's pretty much guaranteed that a site hosted by Microsoft will only use version 10, which will require you to use Windows XP to view the content.
into the address bar. Do you have multimedia codecs installed? If not, look into MplayerPlugin. Also check that you have Flash 7 (that's the latest version for Linux). If the video requires a higher version of Flash, you may need to install Internet Explorer through Wine.

thanks XavierP,
i'll be sure to do that when i get home.
By the way,
were You able to play any of those videos?
HI there, i am not able to play the video's either.
I have flash 7 installed and shockwave plugin. Also Java 1.5.06 and a plugin called libdragonegg.so which seems to enable .avi and .dvi
no go for me either unfortunately..
if you reall really want to play them you could always install vmware and windows XP
I just loaded my XP Image in vmware and it plays fine... It appears part of the page that loads requires Flash 6 but i am unsure abouut the video itself..
It doesn't really have much to do with the files at all, it is the way the page is coded, they accept no player but their own player. If you were to download the files in windows and then play the downloaded files in Linux they would play just fine.
It is just a lame attempt to force people to use an unneeded application.
