Error: media exception in YAST in SUSE 10.1 beta 8
 

I keep getting this error message. I have added the dev repo's (factory) to the yast source (as onjoo suggested here), but I am not succeeding in getting the Yast to move forward. It either just hangs or crashes.

Any suggestions in how to circumvent the problem?

I can tell you that don't even try adding anything, it just doesn't work. There are only two working ways to install packages:
1) wget packages and intall with rpm -i
2) Use smart

SMART
Since none of the real package managers work I had to manually download every package needed.

Packages I downloaded to resolve dependencies :

"+maybe some others, im not sure"

Added factory and packman to the list and finally got a package handler that actually works.


YAST
At first I managed to add the extra-repository to sources and use it. After reboot I cannot edit the sources and Yast crashes every time I click software management :mad:

ZEN
Zen-installer tells me that ZMD does not appear to be running and crashes. This thing is completely broken.

RUG
It destroys the sourcelist everytime i start the program.
I can add sources with "rug sa -type="yum" url mysource"
I can even subscribe the source (update packagelist).
Searching is also working, but intalling isn't

BTW if one adds factory to rug, it tries to parse 70mb of xml and it eat all your memory. End result is that it will probably crash( never end the parse-process) or it just doesn't work.

All I get when typing "rug in package" ...

as I said I can wait till the official release, it looks a kick*ss release!

When installing a single RPM i've downloaded, I use kpackage which is available from your SuSE install CD/DVD. Works well and cooperates well with YaST.
