Error during install

I am trying my first Linux installation. I am trying to install Suse 10 on a PC that was built about 2 years ago. Fairly early on in the install process, I get the following error message:

Installation of package patch-2.5.9-148.i586 failed.

Can anyone offer any ideas??

Thanks.

Well, how did you get the CD? Try copying (but not file-by-file)/reburning it. If you copy it, try to do it using some drive and software that can read damaged disks. If it cannot be read - try contacting support. If you want just to check if it is corrupted, try to copy patch-2.5.9-148.i586.rpm from CD to HDD.

I dowloaded the iso's from the opensuse website and burned them from my laptop.

Is this something I can ignore until the install completes and then copy over the file afterwards??

patch? Yes, you can just fetch the single rpm from website (or copy from cd image) and install it using rpm. There is a possibility that you'll have to install by hand something which doesn't install until you have patch - so check output..

did you check the MD5 summs of the isos?

it sounds like you have a dodged CD

also set your CD burner prg to "verify written data" or whatever your progf calls it

taht way you cna be sure that the CD is not currupt
