Error 3008 when trying to install Opensuse 10.2

I have a ECS GeForce 6100 SM-M motherboard with an AMD 5000 X2 CPU, a Western Digital SATA 250 GB HDD. I want to try Opensuse 10.2 on this computer but it keeps failing the install saying Error -3008 SDA6 in use by system will not make filesystem here. I thinnk the problem is I had this drive in use as a RAID 1 drive once. It appears that Suse is detecting some sort of leftover data on it. I have formatted it multiple times (using Gparted on the Mepis LiveCD), used the WD Data Lifeguard Tools and even put windows on it to try to erase the data. When I install other OS's, there is no problem, just with Suse. This disk will correctly install Suse on other drives on this same computer.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would like to hear it. Thanks.

You could use the "expert partitioning" option to delete the partitions and manually set them up. I've seen that warning about detecting raid on the drive, but I have been able to manually partition the drive during the installation.

I finally got it by low level formatting the drive. Everything I tried plus jschiwal's suggestions wouldn't help. Too bad I still can't install it because the installer barfs on some missing file on the CD! Oh well...
