Angry EPL-6200L laser printer & SUSE 10.3

I posted many times here a problem about installing Epson laser printer EPL-6200L in SUSE 10.3. It is a little bit annoying if you reboot and change to Windows system when you want to print.
I followed the instructions found on web, but all I get is an error message when I try to install PPD file which is a part of the driver.

I am only asking if there is somebody out there, who successlully installed the above mentioned PPD file. The driver itself was installed without any problem, but I cant use the printer, due to the problem with PPD file.

This is the error message:

Checking file "./Epson-EPL-6200L-epl6200l-cups.ppd"
./Epson-EPL-6200L-epl6200l-cups.ppd: FAIL
**FAIL** Unable to open PPD file - Illegal whitespace character on line 129.
WARN Line 44 only contains whitespace!

I'm going out on a limb and guess here, since I've never worked directly with ppd files, but your error message shows that there's something wrong with the contents of the file. It could be that there are actual text errors in the file, or it could be something like the file is using dos line endings instead of unix, or is in the wrong encoding or something.

I suggest you first make a backup copy of the ppd file, then inspect it. Open it up in a text editor and look especially at lines 44 and 129. Can you figure out what the "illegal whitespace" errors are? Perhaps you can alter it to remove the illegal whitespace and try it again. Check that it's using unix line-endings and an ascii-compatible encoding (probably utf-8) and convert it if necessary.

I have no idea if this will help, but it's what I would try first.

This is the error message I get every time I try to install. I tried to do what error message says but no effect on the install process.

Maybe you will see what is wrong with the file. I am not an expert more a noob vis a vis Linux.

The last line is the line 129. Line 44 is just a dot.

I can't see anything particularly wrong. But as the error says, it's illegal whitespace that's the problem. Try removing the "dot" (probably a tab character or something) from line 44, or even remove the entire line, and see that there are no extra white spaces at the end of the file.

Play around with it a bit and try to find out the exact places it's choking on. Other than that, I can't really advise you. Perhaps you can track down another copy of the file somewhere.

But make sure you keep your backup safe in any case.
