dvd playback or not ?

hello,
i have just returned to linux and suse 10.1.
I cannot for the life of me play dvd`s, and yes i have gone to jem report and done just about everything i can. I must admit that my return from xp has not been very good, but i guess i will stick with it. Please, does anyone know the correct proceedure, or indeed any software i can use to get to play dvd`s without the dreaded "The source can't be read.
Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or source doesn't contain data (e.g: no disc in drive). (/dev/dvd)" and then the cryptic "No plugin found to handle this resource (dvd:/)"
Many thanks, steve.

i'm using mplayer on my suse 10
the kaffeine stuff really sucks, i admit.

I've never had any problems with Kaffeine on any distro. You need to make sure you remove/uninstall Suses version of xine-lib and then install libxine from packman and libdvdcss. It maybe a good idea to install win32 codecs from the packman site as well.

dvd playback or not

I followed Jem report and mplayer will work but nothing else. I am a complete newbe (suse 10--amd 64 3000+ gig kingston-asus k8 deluxe) and I was wondering if it would be possible to remove suse's castrated xine and replace it with a full version?
