Does SUSE automount CDROM like mandrake?

yes or no?
and, does suse automount ntfs and fat32?

baronlynx 10-02-2005 11:57 AM

to all 'yes'

dreakon 10-02-2005 12:01 PM

yes, but a little advice to avoid self inflicted head injurys. when installing , when your setting your partion options, make sure to adjut the fstab options to make your partions "mountable by user" other wise it might only let you acess them as root

it automounts also flashdrives, which is very very nice

can i dual boot with windows xp?

dreakon 10-02-2005 07:34 PM

yes you can and on a nearly irreleavent note, suse's boot loader looks a lot cooler than mandrake/mandriva, it auto detects your partitions, and you can dual boot just like every other distro Ive tried. redhat/fedora, ubuntu/kubuntu, mandrake/mandriva, susu, vector, debian, and a few others, which explains why I fried my last hard drive crispier than original recipe. But I keep coming back to SuSE. It just seems to work great.

a few other questions:

1) fedora does not automount cdrom, can not play mp3 files, how about suse?
2) mandriva has no gstreamer to play music, how about suse?

If SUSE has no such problems, i will decide to migrate to SUSE.

Hi TigerLinux. I am a former Mandriva user who switched to Suse 9.3.

1) Suse does have Automount and it can play MP3's. It is NOT, however, included in the installation. You have to point it to an outside source and download this media pack to play Video/Audio.
2) I don't know about Gstreamer, but I think I saw it included with Kaffeine 0.7.1. Again, this also has to be downloaded to an outside source. All this is due to some legal reasons, I believe.

i decide to try mandriva 2005 LE again.
later suse.
