dns client resolver

I have read up on different replies regarding dns caching.
Do I understand it correctly that there is no response caching on a dns client?

If there is caching, how do I purge/flush it?

On a client, caching would be provided by something like nscd. If you want to purge it, restart it. (rcnscd restart)

Many simply don't run nscd because of its undesired caching behavior... you might want to consider running a caching DNS or running a slave .. whichever fits your situation if you're wanting reasonable caching.

Thanks for the tips, I was really only looking to understand if there is caching or not. I interpret your reply that there might be (if you run nscd). and that a restart of it would clear the cache.

Thank you, that was the info I was looking for.
