Hi, all, i installed 10.3 suse 64 bit from dvd i downloaded from www.opensuse.org
installation completed 100% successful. now the issue is : after installation , i boot up system into suse 10.3 every thing seems loading perfectly well as that when just log on screen appears , the system display just lost, i mean no log on screen shows, my monitor goes absolutely blank with monitor hardware instruction " NO VIDEO INPUT ",
some how i learnt that system is up and running becose when i press main power button of my cabinet system starts shutting down everything and ultimately computer shuts down successfully.
i have made every possible effort, now my only hope is you guys, SO plz. help , at any cost i want my system up with 10.3 64 BIT OpenSUSE.
It may be either a problem with the ATI driver installation or the monitor configuration in xorg.conf.
Can you get to a virtual terminal? If so log in as root and enter "init 3" to leave the graphics X11 mode.
You could try running "sax2" and check that you have the correct monitor selected. Also examine the xorg.conf file and your xorg log in /var/log/. The vertical and horizontal refresh rates may be off in xorg.conf.
I had a problem on my desktop with the video being stretched 200% vertically. I needed to run the NVidia installation program to install the nvidia drivers. Another to try since you have an LCD monitor is to run the gtf program using the native resolution of the monitor. (After deleting the ".00" from the name,) insert the modeline into monitor section.
For example, on my monitor I would use "gtf 1280 1024 60 -x". I would change the modline name from "1280x1024_60.00" to "1280x1024_60". Then I would change references of "1280x1024" to "1280x1024_60" in the Display section.
yeah, since i have no display i just tried (failsafe) which takes me into init 3 itself so there is command prompt on screen there i tried both commands : init 5 - result is blank screen ( i dilemma i am facing ) , sax2 - it gives me some error on screen regarding x server and comes back to command prompt again.
should i try installing and downloading 32 bit ? should i not give up ?
Pressing [CTRL]-[ALT]-[F1] will get you to the first virtual terminal. Once you are using a virtual terminal, you can use [ALT]-[F#] to switch to another vt. The CTRL key is needed if you are in an X11 screen.
This is the default that is set in /etc/inittab. Your distro might use F6 instead for X11, but F1 and F2 should get you to a terminal login screen regardless of the distro.
You should read your Xorg log. It should indicate the problem. It would be a driver issue, a syntax error in the xorg.conf file, the horizontal or vertical timings being off, or none of the screens could be started. Look for the lines that start with "(EE)". Those are the errors. The xorg.log file may be named /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Look for the most recent if there are several xorg log files.
How can i read and edit Xorg log. I don't know much about command line interface of Linux.
I like to tell you that, i enter into Virtual Terminal by pressing Ctrl+Alt + F1 , i entered root as login id and password after success, i just try "sax2" command, it gives the result...
***************************************************
Sax : Access to your Display is denied.
************************************************
and this and that, this and that almost same failure and denied results.
then i tried xinit command , it also shows that
FATAL Error
when i try to enter into init 5 (5th level), it does not enter into Graphics mode, oppositely, it causes vanishing command prompt also and monitor's screen goes blank completely.
What should i next ?
is this because of x86_64 Version....
I am greatly disappointed... since 10.3 opensuse is highly awaited version and now it is creating problems...
and change whatever it says instead of the ????s to "VESA"
(dont forget the quotes)
save and then try init 3 and init 5 again.
hopefully that will get graphics if not very good ones (it sets the vidio card driver to the most generic possable as this is often caused by truing to use the wrong driver for the card type)
