Disk (LUN) full, bootup won't complete
 

I was trying to set up my OES Linux server as an install server. I ran the install script that copied the .iso images to an install directory and set up links to allow an NFS install to other boxes. Trouble is, I was running this in PuTTy when the disk full error occurred. No user was running on the server itself. Also, I had no Samba connection to the server at the time. The only way to end the PuTTy session was to hit the close X. I then went to the server and tried to log in as root, but the login would not complete (no prompt). I think now I should have tried a Samba connection to empty some space, but that is 20/20 hindsight. Anyway, I cold booted the server (IBM Blade attached to a SAN). Now the server will not finish booting up. I have tried the OES Linux CD recovery but can only mount the /boot partition, not the / partition. Another little tidbit is that I am running NSS and since there was only a single LUN set up for this blade, I had to use EVMS for setting up the swap and / partitions.
Question (at last): Would booting in single use mode help? If so, how do I do that in SLES? I can mount the /boot partition if there is a change I can make there.
If not, is there any way to delete some files so I can boot up without resorting to a reinstall?

why not use a bootable distro, mount the partition and delete files that way?

Thanks for the reply. I tried using Knoppix CD, but it doesn't recognize the SAN and keeps giving me errors. I guess I can download a later version, since the one I have is from last April.

Just in case anyone doesn't know this already, I found I can enter the startup runlevel from the SuSE startup screen by entering the level in the boot options field.

I entered "1" (no quotes) and the server came up in single-user mode with ALL EVMS PARTITIONS MOUNTED. I simply deleted the files that had filled up my / partition and restarted the server. It came up normally. All is well.
