Unhappy Dell Poweredge 2950 "No boot device available" after installing SUSE Linux 12

Hello out there, and thanks for your time! I have been wrestling with a SUSE 12 install on a poweredge 2950, 2 quad core E5420s, 16GB RAM...it installs fine (allegedly) but I get "No boot device available, hit F1 to retry or F2 to enter setup". Any ideas?

I also notice in the BIOS setup under Boot Sequence, only the CD-ROM device is shown as an optional boot device.

Any thoughts you have are very appreciated!

6~

this would be the NOT free and very NEW
" SUSE Enterprise Linux Server 12 "
https://www.suse.com/products/server/

the one that you HAVE to buy the required support contract for

the "BASIC" one year REQUIRED contract is $349 USD
https://www.suse.com/products/server/how-to-buy/
but you REALLY will want the STANDARD support contract for $799 / year

have you used that paid for support ?
https://www.suse.com/support/

or

is this the old and UNSUPPORTED "OpenSUSE 12.0 "

also a "Dell Poweredge 2950" might be a bit too OLD for a VERY new operating system

have a look at SELS 11.3
ask the novel sales rep about the hardware compatibility

Do you have a PERC card in this 2950?

Did you layout a RAID device on the disk(s) in the 2950 via the PERC? Did you install on the device(s) presented as LUNs from the PERC? (e.g. if you had just 2 physical disks and a PERC card they might be configured as mirrored [hardware RAID] so the OS would see it as a single device, /dev/sda.

We've installed RHEL5 & RHEL6 on the 2950 (and 1950 which is same genration) many times with no issues. I haven't tried Ubuntu.
