First let me say that I'm new to this forum (and to Linux) so if I offend anyone, please let me know. It is not intentional and I make a point to not make the same mistake twice.
I am running SuSE Linux 9.2 on a Dell laptop. I am connected to an HP Officejet 5110 all-in-one printer. When I first started using my system, I successfully installed and used the printer (although only for printing text..which is fine.) Therefore, I know this printer will work with this version of Linux.
I was working as root trying to change my printer settings (yes, I know, BIG mistake!) and somehow deleted my entire printer configuration. I believe that I may have hit ABORT in mid-config or something of that nature.
When I go into the YaST Printer Configuration Tool (via YaST / Hardware / Printer) to reconfigure the printer the following occurs:
During the "Check Environment" and "Load Current Settings" checks I receive the following error:
"
CUPS daemon died during initialization
The configuration process is able to continue, however when I elect to test the printer I get the same error message.
I reinstalled the print system from my Linux disk but the problem persists.
I would greatly appreciate any insight, ideas or suggestions!
Thanks,
Michelle
