CPU architecture of kernel on install DVDs/CDs
Hello. What architechture is the kernel on the OpenSuse CDs and DVDs? I am interested about versions 10.2 and 10.3... The reason is, my K6 system(i585) will not boot them, but I got 10.1 onto it a while back.

You should just download the normal i386 version. Either the dvd or cd version.
you can get it on : www.opensuse.org |
I did download the proper image; It just does not like the CPU or something in this computer. I am having the same problem with the new distros that have come out from this spring until now, except Mandriva...

What problem are you experiencing, is the cd/dvd not booting? Is it stopping somewhere in the install? Does the install work but doesn't it boot aftwards (if so .. which error).

puntjuh, I am having that problem. I am a newbie but downloaded the cd iso's for openSuSE 10.2 last night. I loaded them on a hp Pavilion ze5375us laptop. It loaded great until it gave me the following message: Installation of package/Suse/i586/check media - 2.1 - 35.i586.rpm failed
I cannot get past the line that reads: 2007 - 09 - 18 17:51:51 gpm - 1.20.1 - 340.i586.rpm i Any help would be helpful. I hope this is not stepping on TurboI post but it is what I am experiencing also. Thanks for everyone's help. |
Perhaps before installing you should check the media, in the menu there should be an option to check the installation media. I would check them. This package is on DVD1 or CD5. So if you downloaded the cd's . and you are @ cd5, it's likely that cd5 is corrupted.
