Does Suse 10 have a Control Center like Mandriva 2006??

yast - Yet Another System Tool

dstrbd1 01-27-2006 10:06 AM

is it as easy to use??

yekrahs 01-27-2006 10:37 AM

Yast is probably the best thing about SUSE. Have a go.
(It does take quite a while to load up though).

Actually it doesn't take long at all. YAST loads almost instantly for me on all but my low end computer(only a P4 1.5 768mb ram). SLICK really optimized how fast it runs on 32bit too.

And for my money...not that I am spending any... YAST is the best graphical control center and software center I have tried out of about 30 distros.

Also, there is a KDE Control Center(or KControl) with all distros that use KDE.

It does not load for slowly for me either and I am using Suse 10 on a Celeron 1.5 based system with 768megs of ram.

yekrahs 01-27-2006 11:27 AM

I'd say that's because generally everything is faster on Pentium 4...
How fast something opens is always relative to everything else, and whether you've used slower computers in the past and so it now seems lightning fast, etc.

[For me on a Pentium III with 650MHz, the average window will take a couple of seconds to open, while YaST window about 10 / 15 seconds. Prob. faster for everyone else.]

Both YaST and the KDE config tool are called Control Center though the YaST one has YaST in brackets.
