configure SUSE 10 for adsl ethernet connection

GoodDay folks:

I am a recent convert to linux and have recently installed suse10, however I am unable to connect to the internet.

I have a Gnet adsl modem model BB0060B, from what I gather from the specs it is classed a modem router, and only has a ethernet connection

I also have access to a SpeedTouch 510v4 modem router, ethernet only connection.

I am able to access the router interface, but am unable to configure yast to recognize the connection, it has configured my ethernet card correctly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Open up a terminal
Type : su
Then enter your "root" password.
Then type: ifconfig eth0
This should show you the IP address given to your Ethernet card.

Now type: route

look on the left hand side bottom. It should give you the Default Gateway address, which should be the same as the IP address of your DSL modem.

Your normal setup if one PC hooked up directly via Ethernet to the DSL modem would be by going into YAST.. Network Devices...Network Card..Edit....Hostname and Name Server ...Now tick "automatic address Setup (via DHCP).
Now tick both boxes "change host name via DHCP" and "update Name Servers and Search list via DHCP.
Click "OK"
Now click the "routing" button...and in the "Default Gateway" field, type the IP address of your Modem which is typically 10.0.0.1
Click "OK" then "Next" and "Next again.
Now try and see if you get onto the Internet.
