./configure not finding KDE libraries

Yes I know there are a million threads on this topic, and yes I have searched through each one.

I'm calling ./configure as: ./configure --with-qt-libraries=/usr/lib/qt3/lib64
I initially had a problem with the qt-mt package

My error reads:
checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE libraries installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!

Reading some suggestions I tried appending --prefix=/opt/kde3 to my command; I got the same error.

I've checked Yast, I do have kdelibs3-devel installed, and someone suggested in another thread to install kdebase3-devel, which I have installed.

I'm running Suse 10, 64bit, and am farily new to the linux world.

Can anyone offer some advise?

Thanks

I've avoided 64-bit for the very problems you have encountered. And not having worked with 64-bit, I truely don't know the solution to your problem. But if you manage to get your libraries sorted, I have read of some 64-bit users compiling with 64-bit as follows:
./configure --enable-libsuffix=64

Well, I did get it to finally configure...

./configure --with-qt-libraries=/usr/lib/qt3/lib64 --prefix=/opt/kde3 --enable-libsuffix=64

Everything else went smooth... awesome!
My first successful KDE compile...

Thanks!!!
