Clear software updates list without installing

I have a laptop running Leap 42.2. I tried to use the "one click install" from the software download site. (http://software.opensuse.org)
However, I think that I may have clicked the install button under Tumbleweed by accident. I think this because after the install, I checked for software updates and instead of the usual 5 to 12 updates I now have over 1400 updates waiting for install. Something like this has happened once before. I installed several hundred updates and after a reboot I had Tumbleweed. I am just guessing that is what is going on this time as well. So, my questions are these:
1) could using the one click install for software for Tumbleweed instead of Leap force a change from Leap to Tumbleweed?

2) I don't want to change to Tumbleweed. So, is there a way to clear software update list of the 1422 pending updates so that they are not installed and don't show up again when I refresh the software updates?

I have been researching this and have not found a solution yet. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi there rickermortis.

Can you show us the result of
Code:
sudo zypper lr
You can remove unwanted repos with either Yast2>Software repositories, which gives you the gui list or with zypper in a terminal.

This is certainly one of the largest updates that I have ever seen.
This is not typical of my average update.

Do you use zypper up or zypper dup? You have rather a lot of repos listed and I see you have the factory repo.
Can you do
Code:
sudo zypper lr -uE
please?
That will give us the more detail of the enabled repos.

It seems that whenever I install applications they always want to add another repo.
I always use zypper update.

= = = = = = = = = = =

sudo zypper lr -uE
Repository priorities are without effect. All enabled repositories share the same priority.

Since all of the repositories are named "leap 42.2", do you think that it is "safe to proceed"? Or should I still try to clear the update list?
I did try the zypper update -t patch and saw 15 updates and installed those. That is about the size of update that I am used to getting.

Try disabling all repos except 42.2 oss and 42.2 non-oss and the equivalent update repos. Then do zypper up.
If that's ok enable the other repos 1 at a time and do it again. My only thought is that factory could be updating more than you would want. Did you add factory or was it added with 'one-click'?
If so do you need it? You could remove it or at least disable it. You can always enable it again if it becomes necessary.

It looks as though you know what you're doing with zypper but just in case disable is
Code:
sudo zypper mr -d
plus the repo number from your list above.

Last edited by petelq; 01-17-2017 at 10:16 AM. Reason: add zypper code just in case

Update on issue:
I disabled all repos and then started to enable them one at a time. It turns out that it was the "factory" repo that was putting the 1400 updates in the list.
Thanks Pete, that was a great suggestion. It sure beats a re-install.

So, that brings me to the next question, is the factory repo necessary?

Thanks for all of the help. This is a great forum.

Rick

Simple answer - No.
Factory is issued for testers, developers and people who like to take risks. It's not fully tested and can give dependency issues. It can break your system occasionally unless you really know what you're doing (and even then ...).
Unless there's a particular piece of software you need just get rid of it
Code:
sudo zypper rr
plus the repo number. Otherwise disable it for now.
