hello,
i can view whats inside the tarball, but i need to know how to extract it. The readme file is just useless, so i also need to know what to do when i have extracted it. Ps i am a newbie to tar files, so go easy...ta.
Sorry if I disagree here: root permissions are not required until you install the software. Until then, you can perform all steps as user in your homedirectory.
BTW: compiling from source may be a little tricky for a beginner. In SUSE, you may need to install some devel-packages that are not installed by default (if ./configure returns errors).

That dependes on the permissions of the downloaded file....
It surely does! But permissions can be changed...
I simply wanted to point out that compiling does not require root permissions.
Sorry if you felt bothered.
