Changing the Geometry to get the full resolutions with Geforce FX 5200

In Windows XP I can safely use screen resolutions up to and including 2048x1536

However in Linux - despite setting 2048x1536 as the screen resolution, the Geometry setting of Sax2 forces me into 1280x1024 and I can't get it any higher

Is there anyway of changing the actual display screen size because on a 19 inch monitor the mouse pointer is the size of the tip of my finger so I'd like to change the mode if possible

i'm using SuSE 9.2 DVD version (cover disc on Linux Magazine this month ) and the NVIDIA Drivers (build 7174)

Otherwise Linux is good

as root edit the xorg config file and add the resolutions you want to the mode lines.

In Sax2 there is a place to add geometries. Is the right monitor selected? Are you using the YOU driver or one from the nvidia site?

piscikeeper: I shall try that - do you need to add the full mode line or just the resolutions

jdblick: I couldn't find the place. There is a place to add resolutions (which is how i added 2048x1536). Problem is 2048x1536 (which is what it is currently set at) only puts up 1280x1024 - which is the resolution in the geometry section of sax2 (but no way to change it)

While the system is booting and shutting down, the text mode boot up is at 1600x1200 which is higher than I can get X up to

the mode lines are already there, all you need to do is add the resolution you want.if it's already listed, then you may need to run sax2 a few times to get it running.
i'm curious as to why you would want to run such a high resolution.my 19" monitors run 1280x1024 and the 21's run 1600x1200.on all of them the cursor is only about 1/4" and still have readable font sizes.
