Can't Mount DVDRW in Suse 9.2

I have a benq dvdrw, and i cant seem to mount the darn thing!

It says whenever i try to access it ... cound not enter folder /media/dvdrecorder

I am new but am learning, so far i have got 3d acceleration working with an ATI x600, and the intel hd audio that is on my series 915mobo, both of which have caused a lot of people problems, so i am willing to do what it takes if i am told how to do it or at least get steered in the right direction.

Using suse 9.2

Thanks for the continued help,

CoachZ

Can you post /etc/fstab please?
Also check through YAST (system -> cdrom and IDE) if SuSE sees the hardware.

CoachZ 02-21-2005 09:28 AM

here is the fstab

/dev/hda2 / reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 1
/dev/hda1 swap swap pri=42 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0
/dev/dvdrecorder /media/dvdrecorder subfs fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs fs=floppyfss,procuid,nodev,nosuid,sync 0 0

Yast sees it in the hardware list.

o.k.
Next one:
how are you trying to mount device through GUI or CLI?
If from GUI then you need to mount it from CLI for the first time (unless you have automount setup).
So open terminal window and enter
#mount /media/dvdrecorder

Ok so here is the thing,

Lets say i put in a cd that has some various data files and such, i can open that one just fine.

Now lets say i put in a music cd and i cant open the folder and see the music files. So i try to play the cd using xmms or amarok and it shows the cd playing yet i cant here anything except static.

The error only comes up with i try to open a music cd.

Any ideas why? I guess it is mounted, i seem to be having problems accessing music cds.

you don't have to mount music CD
The best option would be a cabling CD<->sound card, otherwise sound might (does not have) be distorted.

Hope that will help
