can't install 10.0 64-bit on my hp laptop

EDIT: Having also tried to install KUbuntu with the same problems, I think that perhaps my post is more suitable in the laptop section, as it might be that my hardware is too new, etc.

I've moved it there.

Thanks

you could also try a net install which is described on opensuse.org. perhaps this works.

if acpi fails usually the safe settings or installation with acpi=off works hmm, strange

the only thing you could do is try installing the 32bit since it is known that the 64bit version does not work really good on some hardware..

DOn't even waste your time. I spent a month and the only distro that loaded a worked was Mandriva and it broke as soon as it was updated. I did get the x86_64 Suse 10 installed, BUT, I could not get everything working right and the manual updates would not take from the /projects folders.

I have a Comapq V2000, now running SuSE 10.0 32-bit, with the linuxant wireless driver and WPA-PSK encryption. While it is just an opinion, no one is ready for 64-bit processing, but I will say after loading WindowsXP 64-bit that the Linux community is light years ahead of M$.

Everything does work too ... that is a bonus!

Oh I forgot to add I was able to get the 64-bit SuSE 10 running, but I had to use the "noapic nolapic" boot options. Then I had no wireless and some of the other issues stared above.
