Can't Boot To a GUI in Suse 10

I just tried to install ymessenger for linux(redhat 9)rpm on my suse10 system.I did it with yast and it seemed to be fine, except that i could only open it with su permissions.I was logging off and back in as root to change them. But when I shutdown the screen was split in two horizontally and the upper half split in two vertically.....and in each of these upper halves the splash screen was displayed....not in the usual blue but in purple!
When i rebooted I got to the login screen ok ....but then when I typed my password in the screen went black(as usual)then briefly I saw the command line showing login: ....the back to the login screen(not into the o/s)I tried with the root login but it was the same!
So then I booted with the install disk and went to the repair console...ran it and accepted all the recommendations.Tried to boot again but the same!!
So I booted to a command prompt and using the rm command removed the .ymessenger file ran repair again and the tried to boot .....the same!
Can anybody point me in the right direction?

beejayess - as LQ is a help forum "help help help" isn't necessary in the title.

It is for me XavierP!but I am sorry for shouting.
Since my last post I have discovered that it is a x-server problem, kde cant find it.
I have tried in the console

#:init 3
#:sax2

then I configured and saved...
then.......

#:startx

but i get font errors....
I would be grateful for any hack to get X up and running....though I dont mind the console I am not at home with it in linux yet and would like to get back to a GUI.

update

Have tried many thing since my last post....all to no avail!
recompling the driver...(via)...
tried different ones sis_drv.o...
they were all in the the X11 driver file anyway....
have tried xorg.conf....
and manually conf that file to....
have tried sax2.....
sax2 -m 0=vesa......
no GUI will load...gnome,kde....etc....
I have got it down to this error on the X server...
the XKEYBOARD keymap compiler(xkbcomp)reports:
>warning: type"ONE_LEVEL"has 1levels,but<RALT>has 2 symbols
> ignoring extra symbol
error from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
could not init path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local,removing from list!
could not init path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID,removing from list!

then the server shuts down!!!

have tried the mkfontdir command on the 2 paths in question....but nothing...

Has anybady any ideas?

I am getting really bored with console!!
