Bunch of general questions

1. Sometimes when I click attachments on some forums, Firefox prompts me to either download it, or choose a program to open it with. So, how would I go about setting it so that pictures open with Gwenview?

2. How do I add Windows fonts to SuSE? I can't even find Arial, and because of that, fonts in programs such as firefox seem so tiny.

3. My bottom CD-RW drive isn't really working too well with SuSE. When I put the CD in, it sais no Audio CD is found, even though I just inserted it. Also, KAudioCreator won't rip songs from that drive, although it will from the top DVD drive (it can only read disks, not burn). The thing is, it burns music perfectly fine.

4. How do you generally install programs? Say I download a program and I want to install it. How would I do it?

5. Lastly, in amaroK, how do you make it so that it doesn't show a bubble in the top-left corner everytime a track changes?

I apologize for all the questions, but please bear with me. I've been using a Linux distro since this friday :D

2. use CTRL + / CTRL - to change font size in firefox.

3. make sure the correct cd drive is selected in the settings of KaudioCreator.

4 suse uses red-hats package manamement.. install sofware either by compiling it yourself, or by downloading a precompiled RPM, and installing it with rpm, or similar rpm installer. yast?

5. That bubble is called the OSD (on screen display) disable it in the amarokk settings, or select a new screen position.

3. There's onlyone option to choose from in kAudiocreator, and that's /dev/cdrom, which I think is the top drive.

4. Not exactly sure what you mean by "rpm"

You can install ms fonts on Suse, by running YOU (yast online updater) and selecting the ms fonts package.

When I run YOU, and look through the updates and stuff, I don't see the fonts anywhere

Download Microsoft TrueType Core Fonts.........it's an optional package.

Maligogo90 05-08-2005 06:17 PM

When I type TrueType in YaST or YOU, I don't see the right things. I don't see the TrueType core fonts anywhere...

YOU usually gives you the option to install the MS fonts when you first run it. If you are having problems, search in the Suse forum and google and you may come up with some answers on how to do this.

Hmm, I just tried typing in Arial in Office Writer for font, and it recognized it. How do I make it so that it appears in font drop down boxes throughout the system

Did you buy this copy of Suse? If so read the manual, there is a lot of useful info and most of your questions could have already been solved. If you are using KDE, you can change global fonts in the KDE control center and for GNOME its changed in the fonts section of the gnome preferences.
