browser speed

I have newly installed SUSE 10.1 on my Pentium D dual core machine connected to internet via LAN and DSL modem. Works fine. However, when I try to browse with firefox or epiphany they are very slow to load pages, I get timouts etc. Konqueror speed is normal. Seems weird. Any suggestion why?
