Broadcom Wireless not working Suse 11.3

I've been using Suse for many years but with my upgrade to 11.3 wireless stopped working. I have an HP Pavilion laptop (dv6000)running Suse 11.3 (new installation) and NetworkManager has the wireless tab grayed out and I can't add a wireless device. I had wireless working on Suse 11.2 on this laptop. I made sure the wireless switch is on.

I installed the firmware and rebooted
sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware

Then I loaded it with:
modprobe b43

uname -r
2.6.34-12-desktop

After running dmesg I see the following snippet
[ 35.965223] Broadcom 43xx driver loaded [ Features: PMLS, Firmware-ID: FW13 ]
[ 38.163177] RPC: Registered udp transport module.
[ 38.163181] RPC: Registered tcp transport module.
[ 38.163183] RPC: Registered tcp NFSv4.1 backchannel transport module.
[ 38.176263] Slow work thread pool: Starting up
[ 38.176383] Slow work thread pool: Ready
[ 38.176450] FS-Cache: Loaded

lsmod |grep -i b43
b43 205773 0
ssb 64458 1 b43
pcmcia 67555 2 b43,ssb
mac80211 290013 1 b43
cfg80211 182659 2 b43,mac80211
mmc_core 83746 3 b43,ssb,sdhci

There is no blacklist file
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

I've spent many hours trolling forums and looking for the answers before posting but nothing I've tried has worked so far. Any help would be much appreciated. it's a bit frustrating.

Thank you in advance.

Which broadcom chip do you have?

Post the output of
Code:
su -
lspci -vnn | grep -a4 -i net
It's odd that you have to manually load the module on reboot. What does iwconfig show? Does trying to bring up the device give an error? (Assuming wlan0 from iwconfig.)

Code:
su -
ifconfig wlan0 up

My laptop has died which may have contributed to the wireless issue. The solution was to finally breakdown and go buy a new one. Thank you for your help.
