banshee mp3

I am trying to get banshee to play back mp3. It encodes them perfectly. Syncs with ipod plays cds and oggs etc.

But I install gst-fluendo (from source) and I cannot play mp3s through banshee. Does it need libaries linked to enable???

banshee 0.10.9
engine gstreamer10
opensuse 10.1

error message no pluggin to handle this file. You may need to install plugin.

What do you mean "configure with --prefix=/opt/gnome"? I have the same problem.

My gstreamer .so files are located in /opt/gnome/lib/gstreamer-0.10/

First check where your gstreamer is located. Just do cd /opt/gnome/lib/gstrea [TAB] to see if it's there.

(A handy app for finding files is slocate. Its called findutils-locate on suse. Just install then as root in terminal do updatedb. To create a database. Then: locate gstreamer or anything else you are looking for.)

If it is return to the direrctory where the gst-fluendo.tar.gz package is. Untar and change to the newly created directory.

Then when you normally compile you only do ./configure but if you do this the files will end up in /usr/local/lib/gstreamer... and banshee won't find them there. So do:

./configure --prefix=/opt/gnome/

make

make uninstall (if you have installed previously)

make install

Now the files will be installed in /opt/gnome/lib/gstreamer... and banshee should find them.

Hi,

right now I have installed banshee using "apt-get install banshee". It works like a charm.

You can install as many media players you want; vlc is a good choice.
Have you installed the restricted extras?

How did you installed banshee using
Code:
$ apt-get install banshee
in OpenSuSE? Looks like you did that in a Debian base distro
I think in OpenSuSE the command line should be more like
Code:
$ sudo zypper install banshee
or something
