ATi Radeon 9600XT
Hello before all Im going to state my System Specs:
AMD XP 2800+ 2.2ghz 512 DDR PC 3200 200GB SATA Maxtor Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600XT 256mb DDR I think my system is fine for suse 9'2. I recently Installed it, and it was user - noob friendly, I got my sound, my printer, everything except for my graphics card. I began to search for help, forums, threads, etc. Ive done many things, but at the moment nothing has worked, let me explain: I downloaded the SuSe 9.2 Repacked ATi drivers, installed them, I ran the fglrxconfig to set up a config file, I even made this one and replaced it with the original XF86config file. I read somewhere that SAX wont do the job for me, that its more manual that anything else, Ive done alot of more stuff trying it out but still no 3d acceleration or so. I also own a Nvida GeForce 4 MMX 440, I could use it but then again, that card is weaker than my ATi, and I would like to have my ATi. I would really appreciate any help, you can email me, call me, come to my house, lool sincerely Derek. |
I'm not sure if this will help, but it's worth a try:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=302954 I have a 9600XT, and this thread got me through it. I went from ~300 fps when running glxgears to ~3500 fps. Note there are a couple problems with formatting and a typo that make one or two of the instructions a bit unclear. Read down for an explanation. Also note I did this with a fresh install because I wanted to follow the instructions exactly. I see no reason why using this on an existing install wouldn't work, but who knows. (Not me, obviously. :-)) |
it worked with existing installation for me
but im only getting around 1800 fps with the gears program with my ati 9600..is that normal? |
FPS
I'm not sure what glxgears actually tests, so I don't know what normal is for various configurations. If you're running a plain 9600 as opposed to an XT, it probably is normal since the former is slower than the latter.
FWIW, my specs: AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (running at 2.1GHz) Asus A7N8X-X Motherboard 1 Gig Corsair PC-3200 DDR ValueRAM ATI Radeon 9600XT AIW (stock speeds) I've tweaked settings in my BIOS for optimal performance for the video. I'm very new to Linux on a home system and so don't know how all this interacts to affect performance. Whatever the case, the graphics on my system are now decent when before I couldn't drag a window without some obnoxious results and delays. It was so bad I would have been quite satisfied with ~1800 fps. :-) |
