This is too weird... The dmesg you posted shows it never even thought about loading anything but Mesa, has no AGPGART at all loading...

I wonder....since you can uninstall all nvidia driver with a command, I am betting there is a way to uninstall all the mesa drivers. I just don't know how. That could help. I really don't know though, you are walking in some weird territory. |
Are you Multibooting into Windows?
I have the exact same problem, and I'm looking for a solution, but I have a work around. I boot into Windows first.
For some reason from a cold boot (power off, boot straight into linux) it can't get the AGP apeture size. Booting into windows and then rebooting into linux lets it see that AGP Apeture and voila, fglrx works. I have noticed one funny thing connected to the "disappearance" and changing ATI and Mesa drivers.
Gkrellm which has been running on my desktop shows also temperatures ( motherboard, CPU, HDD), voltages (+3,5 ; 12,0 and 5,0V) and fans. So what is funny? When there is fglrx ATI driver running, the above mentioned sensors reading is gone and when Mesa drivers are running they show again. :D :confused: |

Well there is no change in behavior of my fglrx and Meas drivers changing. Every morning I start my computer and check whether it is running fglrx or Mesa it is Mesa. So I have to init 3 and write again " sax2 -r -m ......." go to init 5 and reboot . Again I am in fglrx "mode" for as long as "next morning". I really want to get to the "bottom" of the problem. Any suggestions??? :cry: |
Here's something really weird I just noticed with the latest SUSE drivers (8.19.10).
If I run as user fglrxinfo I get display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: MOBILITY RADEON 9600 Generic OpenGL version string: 1.3.5461 (X4.3.0-8.19.10) If I run the same as root, I get display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.2.1) I don't know if this is a bug or what. 3D (as user) is definitely working, but I'm confused. BTW I'm using SUSE 9.3 - not 10.0. |
Well, I was just going to recommend trying the new drivers... the 8.19.10.
After a boot when it loaded the ATIs, try checking the xorg.conf, making sure it is the ATI generated one, then back it up as xorg.conf.old. Just to make sure it isn't loading an old one sometimes. Also, can you check the xorg.0.log when it loads the mesas? Maybe there is something quirky going on there...If that doesn't work, I am thinking we may need to have you set up some kind of script on boot which checks for the right drivers, but man, that is getting into really advanced stuff we shouldnt' need to get into just to have drivers stick. winesquire - There is a line during fglrx configuration which mentions who is allows to run the drivers and DRI specifically. Make sure you hit "0" here, which is all. |

On your first boot of the morning, post the results of
dmesg | grep agpgart confirm that fglrx failed to load (running under MESA) then warm reboot (keep power on) and run that line again. If it's the same and you are still under mesa, then run your sax2 command reboot and grep dmesg for agpgart one last time. My problem seems to be related to agpgart not starting properly on a cold boot and maybe the same thing is happening to you. ._. |

Now I have another problem. Yesterday I removed fglrx drivers from my system because I want to install the new driver. I do not know what happened but after restarting I cant enter into KDE. To save the time I reinstalled SUSE 10.0. Now, when downloading ATI installer and driver , I run sh ./ati-driver-installer......--get-supported , there is no support for SUSE. And when I run the older version of the installer, there is NO support for SUSE either ????? So I am not able and use ATI Driver Installer any more. Where is the problem now???? I can reinstall SUSE again if there is no other solution. |
Don't worry about get supported. They work just fine on SuSE 10.0, I am using them now. Just install the rpm, and do a basic ./ on the driver install script, and then run the fglrx command. Because this is just a basic install, it will be fine on all linux which supports rpm packages. You can follow my guide if you need to, but I think you should just do a straight install, dont' worry about making an rpm to install or anything, it wil appear in the KDM menu just fine.
