I see a lot of threads here about how good Picasa for Linux is. I've tried to install it three times in SUSE 10.1 x86 and it never seems to work. It appears to be going through the install, but then I can't start it.
Has anyone else had the same problem? Any fixes to the problem?
Have you tried opening up a console window entering "picasa" on the command line? That will usually give you a clue of the problem. Picasa is an x86 application that actually ran on my SuSE 10.1 x86_64 installation.
picasa was run but exited without messages. That's unusual, running a GUI program on the command line usually provides warnings or error messages when problem occur. When you installed picasa a special wine was also installed. Perhaps wine has an error log and doesn't pass the messages to stdout like a conventional Linux program would. I don't have much experience with wine. perhaps winehq.org can provide some direction on where wine writes error messages. You might also try the Google blog for picasa. Sorry I can't be of more help but I changed distros to Ubuntu and haven't been able to get picasa installed yet. I've an x86_64 box and running x86 applications can be problematical when libraries are called.

I have exactly the same problem in SuSE10.1
I've seen in other threads output from:
WINEDEBUG=+file,+module picasa
or
WINEDEBUG=+file picasa
some of the output on my machine from the latter is below.
I haven't been able to figure it out. Please post here if you do.
cheers

Digikam is a very powerful package but when I got Picasa running I liked it a lot. Not as many features but what it does is more intuitive. I tried F-Spot but it insists on organizing pictures by date rather than by choice. As someone that use there digital images frequently F-Spot is, IMHO, unusable.
I'm not sure how you installed Picasa but when I used the RPM from Google's site, it installed perfectly. It even put an icon on my KDE menu under Graphics, Photography. Picasa uses its own version of Wine, so its separate from any wine version you have installed.

myself, I installed via the rpm from google and do not have the full wine pkg installed. I have since tried various methods as well.
When I ran it the very first time, a dialog did appear to accept licensing... be never anything else...ever

How did you install it?
I used the RPM from their site as well. It added a KDE icon, and all the files, but it will not run.

I've found in many other sources that picasa doesn't work with the nvidia drivers (which I'm using). Looking for a workaround. I have a complicated xorg.conf and simply flipping nvidia for nv and turning off a few options won't work for me... so still looking.
