i spent one complete day in the beginning of this month, trying to install w98 additionally to suse 9.1. i need a windows-system since my digicam won't work with linux and i like to play quake3 and 1nsane online with friends. i chose w98 since i have it and can configure it quite well.
this one day was completely weird - "w98 installation cannot be completed because of another os's installation"; "boot sector is protected"; "boot sector cannot be written on"; "linux cannot be installed because of an unfinished windows-installation"... all kind of kombinations. i then turned my back on both (instead of throwing the pc out of my window, which was an alternative). knoppix and qtparted allowed me to rearrange my hda's.
my ~38gb are partitioned like that:

at first, i didn't do anything with the fat32 partitions since the day was used up, i was overloaded with anger and i needed the machine for my studies. today i tried this windows-installation - at first, it complained about the boot sector again. then, suddenly, "format c:" would work, which was not the case last time. installation was aborted several times because of errors, i did never come longer then the timezone-preference. "exceptional error 0d" was in my way all the time, additionally, windows informed me about writing in my boot-sector with every start.
starting from the hdd went directly to windows. i had no idea how to fix this elseway, so i tried the rescue-option from my suse 9.1 - cd. same thing happened as last time: asking for a rescue login it didn't accept my username and password, no single enter either. so the rescue-option was just not working...
knoppix then told me that the boot sector of hda1 might be damaged or too many filesystems are in use. i hoped to install linux without changing my data-hda2 then, which did not work. hda1 was ntfs, btw, and marked as a windows-partition, i have no idea, why.
the new-installation including a three-hour-update is finished now. but i still have no clue about how to get a second os, w98, working beside suse. if you have any idea,
please tell me. i am getting a shortage of time soon again, since there are at least three university tasks coming up in february.
anyway, thanks for "listening"! i just need to share my... experiences...
best regards
