Has anyone been able to get this card working (RAID 1) with SUSE 9.0?

Adaptec Raid 1200A 2 Port ATA 100 PCI Card


Any and all experiences positive and negative would be very much appreciated.

Whats the problem that you're having with the device?

I am needing to know if i will be able to install SUSE 9.0 2.4.21-99 onto it as a RAID 1 OS boot partition and also have the Promise SX4000 raid 5 controller for the storage array.

I am trying to find out if the Adaptec card is support and will work well in this type of configuration.

I didn't use the Adaptec 1200A card, instead I picked up a Silicon Image chip - ATA 133 RAID card (PCI) and got it to work the way I needed.

So now the system is the Silicon Image RAID 1 with two 60 gig drives and a Promise SX4000 RAID 5 card with four 250 gig drives currently running SUSE 9.0 build 2.4.21-99.

I haven't formated the RAID 5 yet, I am still trying to decide between Reiser and ext3, Any suggestions?

The one major problem I ran into with this configuration is that getting into the BIOS is difficult. I must take out one of the two raid controllers in order to be able to have enough bios memory to change settings, so I just made sure the settings were the way I wanted them and then I installed the cards.

I have chosen not to go with the 1200A card, instead I installed the Silicon Image chip - ATA 133 RAID card (PCI) card.

amazingly I have been able to install SUSE 9.0 onto it with a RAID 1 for the OS and a RAID5 for the storage array.
