9.2 Pro--only root user can access my sata drive

Hello,
Humble Linux newb here. I have my SuSe 9.2 installation on my 40gb drive and I have an 80gb sata drive with all my music, movies, etc. I can access everything on the sata drive fine when using root credentials but my normal user can't do it. Even though I added my normal user to the root group it doesn't matter because ls -l shows the sata directory in /mnt to only allow the owner (root) access and no one else. If I try chmod, chgrp, or chown I get a read only message So I have two questions:

1) How automatically set my normal user to use the file manager in super user mode.

or

2) How can I change the read/write ACL on my sata mount point? Would it be wise to do so? If I did that, would windows still be able to read the drive?

I hope someone can help me out of a simple yet annoying bind.

Thank you

You should modify the atributes in /etc/fstab to show your UID and then you will be the owner of the drive.
Don´t know the mount point and the /dev file for your drive, but here is example from my fstab:

Code:
/dev/hda3 /mnt/fat vfat uid=1000 0 0
uid should be your user´s Uid. If you does not want the drive to be mounted on startup add ¨noauto,¨ before uid=
