9.2 install problem

Have tried to install 9.2 from DVD (md5summed) twice on hda7. Once with grub on the MBR and once with it on hda7 (yes it's tagged bootable). Both ways, when it starts to boot I get "GRUB" on a black screen and it locks up. The only suspicion I have is that it doesn't want to boot from an extended partition, but I have no other choice.

Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

I vaguely remember something like this happening to me. The problem was that the size of the partition was too large for the antiquated BIOS to support booting. I resolved it by using two partitions: a 96 MB for /boot and a larger LVM partition for everything else.

That was a great hint. The problem was in the BIOS. It's now been resolved. Thanks.
