9.1 Professional DVD problem

Apologies if this has been asked/answered before or if I seem vague. I have some experience of Linux but have been using Windows exclusively for the last few years, so I am a litttle rusty.

I have just installed SuSE 9.1 Professional from the DVD which came free with the SuSE 9 Bible.

Everything goes ok through out the installation until the pc shuts down and then restarts. At this point there is the count down before the pc attempts to boot from the hard drive when it fails with a pop up window saying 'cannot boot from hard drive'.
I can get the thing up and running from here but I need to boot from the DVD and obviously I would prefer a proper installation.

I am using all the default options, GRUB, etc. and have installed a Linux only system with no dual boot.

Any suggestions of things to try, other than using LILO or partitioning my hard drive into smaller chunks?

Do an install, and the choose the repair option. Make sure GRUB is installed on the MBR(partition check). You will not have to reinstall your packages.

"Make sure GRUB is installed on the MBR(partition check)."

How do I do that? (I am a graphics programmer, not networking).
And if its not installed?

Because it will ask you if you want to install it on the MBR when it does a partition check.

I will give it a try but I tried the repair option after it failed and there was no mention of any problems.

Looks like I will have to use Fedora instead, which seemed to install fine. Pity as I would rather use SuSE.

The pity is you are using an ass old version of SuSE. 9.3 will rock you.

You can download the live dvd to test and see if you like it before you buy.

9.1 came free with the book.
I will be getting my hands on a 5 CD copy of 9.3 in a few weeks but I would like to get in some practice right away.
Too many years on Windows f**ks up your skills....
