youtube lag suse 10.2

Well, after getting apt installed and whatnot (thanks a ton!) I was watching some videos on youtube and noticed the sound was "lagging" behind the video. Im fairly certain this isnt youtube itself, but something else. Currently I'm installing xine which will hopefully fix, but I also need to get my gfx installed (which is a laptop, so I dont know the card name or anything.. :S )

Suse 10.2 btw.

This is a long term problem in Linux. The best approach that I've heard is to set your window manager to prioritize audio daemon as a real time process. In KDE you open kcontrol and select the sound section. There is a check box to make the audio daemon a higher priority.

This method is not always successful. My experience is that a faster CPU will reduce the problem.

I have had only rarely any trouble with sync in Linux. But when I have it was on the 'tube. ON the whole my Linux box runs Utube a fair amount better than my windoze box.

You'll get rid of the lag by upgrading to Flash 9, which is now available for Linux.

I also have upgraded to Flash 9 in LInux and experience the same audio sync problem. In fact, I get it on my Windows XP machine using Flash 9. I have seen this problem mostly on Youtube, but also on Google video.

If it lags on both, I suspect some more fundamental problem. FWIW, I am not talking about a 0.05 second lag; I am talking about the one that is about 1 second, which was quite painful to endure.

Yes, it lags on both OS's for me. This is not always the case, but it could be that the people who upload the videos do not know how to audio sync as other people in the Youtube/Google video comment mention the same audio being out of sync. I don't know what's going on.
