Loading a 64bit distro on a 32bit machine.
It might work and in a perfect world it should. Working on the principal you only need to ship one dvd for all singing and dancing. The problem is you fill your machine with enormous code -assuming imperfect structures- that may never ever be used and code that spends it time checking, or worse still code that is not optimised for your processor. Perfect code is minimised for code space or speed and optimised for versatility. Better then to use the code designed for your architecture. Anyway, I bet the 64bit code wouldn't work anyway on a 32 bit machine. On the other hand all the 64 bit code hasn't been written yet for many apps. |
