X/sax2 hangs.

Hey there, I was wondering if any of you have run into this before. I just installed SuSE 9.3 Pro and whenever I go into X be it Gnome/KDE/sax2 it HANGS my system. I can init 3 fine, and it is stable, I jut can't do anything with graphics.

I have a Geforce 6800.

Thanks guys and gals,
Alex

I fixed it. After hours of troubleshooting the display and various other issues, SuSE now works 100%. I solved it by reinstalling the NVIDIA driver, official onesthis time, then running sax2 -m -0:fbdev (can't remember exact syntax)...

The problem is back again. sax2 and x crash over and over again. I can't change screens I can't do anything. I am growing extremely frustrated with Suse. Of note, sax2 never shows the changes i made when I reopen it.

sax2 Problems

Follow this link to the last 1 or 2 posts for the resolution to the sax2 nightmare. Be sure to review both avenues of fixes, including the link between the #### #### near the top of the last post. Good luck.

Ok, I actually solved this. Here is how I did it:

1) installed NVIDIA drivers.
2) crashed for 10 hours straight
3) had a few beers, got laid
4) came back, restarted init 3
5) ran sax2 -m 0=fbdev and configured my card using official nvidia drivers
6) crashed some more, ate dinner, watched American Idol
7) REINSTALLED nvidia drivers under init 3.

And xorg worked. Very odd. No idea why that worked to be honest with you. I have now sucessfully restarted, run X for hours, etc, and it works flawlessly!

Sometimes we can only say "Computers!". Glad it works and I'm learning -- When it works, stop, and just be glad it works. Do nothing more!

Glad to hear you have it working.

exactly, I've been working tech support too long to be all that suprised at it. Too many times I've gotten a call from an End User and asked them to try something they had already tried again and it worked. Usually they say, "So, why did it work now?" and I just laugh and say what you said, "Computers!"
